They worked in the castle and served the Witch. They knew no other way. From before dawn, they’d labor long hours without question or complaint, carrying out her evil schemes.

The truth is, Miss Gulch — because that’s who she truly was beneath her pointy hat and green skin — was not “evil.” She was simply living in accordance with her nature. The evil she unleashed in the world was an unintentional consequence of working out her internal psychodrama in the wider world.

Nonetheless, the castle workers were hypnotized and the munchkins were terrorized. All was not merry in the Land of Oz.

Here On Earth

Here on Earth we have oil sheiks and corporate honchos and Silicon Valley tycoons and other Witches, all unleashing evil in the world.

Whether they’re working us for long draining hours (where’s the shorter work week we were promised?), destroying the biosphere with fossil fuels and plastic, or disrupting our brains with attention-crushing apps, we have many Witches unleashing a variety of evils. And they do this relentlessly with increasing speed and intensity. They do this easily because there is no meaningful resistance.

It’s a full-fledged war against humanity with only one-side fighting.

Ridiculous and Unnecessary
