This society is destroying itself. We must rebuild it better now, before it collapses.
We live in a science fiction universe.
What we are facing now reminds me of The Foundation Trilogy, a science fiction series written by Isaac Asimov. In it, the Galactic Empire — a giant civilization spanning millions of worlds— was falling apart and everything would soon become chaos. The chaos would last for thousands of years — unless a small group of sharp do-gooders could change the course of history. The group called itself The Foundation.
Well, here we are and the plutocracies and dictatorships of our world, built on the fragile and deadly foundation of oil, are facing an existential crisis. It’s clear that the leaders in business and government (and other institutions) are unable to meet the crisis. Many are accelerating it.
From where I stand, I see some people organizing and taking actions, making passionate and noble efforts to prevent the rapidly approaching doom. But the old Empire, in its death blows, is still a formidable force.
Ooops. I don’t mean “Empire”! I meant the leaders and systems of the world we live in today. It’s easy to get them confused.
