A meritocracy is incompatible with corporate capitalism. Boeing is an excellent example!
Boeing was, until about a decade ago, a brilliant company. They designed and built brilliant aircraft.
But corporate capitalism requires ever increasing profits. This need conflicted with desire of competent engineers (and others) to do quality work. Engineers were fired and others quit. Whistleblowers who warned of the dangers were harassed to the point of suicide. Or was it suicide?
The system requires management to prioritize profit over competence…or safety…or merit.
