We’ve made bad choices. We can now make good ones.
Our world is what people have made it. Humans have allowed leaders to make rules, and those rules resulted in the world we have today.
The rules say that, in certain countries, whoever has seized power is the boss and whatever he says goes. That’s totalitarianism. In other countries, people vote but the candidates and campaigns are funded by wealthy people and corporate money. In those countries, what the corporation says goes.
This is, of course, not fair. The people who do the work and who produce everything only get what those in power permit them to get. The people with the power seem to take more and more. Human beings are abused, and perhaps even worse, the planet itself is abused, too.
The World As It Is
The rules of our world are like lust. We are in competition, always seeking more but rarely even getting enough. We are told that we are masters of our own fate, but the rules permit very few winners, and those winners are usually born into wealth. Still, we are driven by compulsion, by a perceived need to get ahead, by a sense that our value as people is determined by our productivity.
Like lust, the pursuit and the moment of “success” feels amazing. And it’s followed by an emptiness, a crushing…
