Now, it should be climate scientists — not me or any other layman — who develops a program to stabilize the Earth’s climate and secures livable conditions on the planet for our children. But it’s obvious to me that we NEED one, that it must be substantial enough to meet the scope of the problem, and it must be SOON.
That no such program exists is clear evidence that our species is making no real effort to prevent climate collapse. If a country is attacked, they are at war the same day. If we need an atomic bomb to defeat Hitler, we have the Manhattan project — and get it done. If we decide we want to go to the moon, we start Project Apollo, and go to the moon. In none of these cases was the program rejected due to money concerns.
But with the entire planet and the future of everyone’s children at stake — NOT a damn thing is being done. Our scientists are ready and working as hard as they can on various studies and technologies— but there’s no comprehensive project to save us.
Scientists and engineers continue to perform at a professional (I would say genius) level. They devise ever more accurate and detailed models of the Earth. They develop technologies for clean energy and continuously improve them.
And then we fail to use this brilliance. Or just wait for them to come to market. We don’t…
