Although I didn't repeat it here, I have often acknowledged and praised other climate activists. I support their efforts, but what they've done has not been enough. We need to do more. The Saners intends to mobilize people who won't join those other efforts, people who aren't full-fledged activist and who feel weighed down by other obligations, as well as climate anxiety.
I personally DO give to humanitarian groups and, heck, I also read the Guardian!
The intent here is to build a bigger tent and to guide that tent with strategies and tactics that have a history of success in past movements.
I certainly feel like I have fallen short in places so far, but I'm NOT Gandhi or King. And I continue to work from the abstract to the specific, to get us moving, to lead by example, and to outline a strategy and a series of tactics to achieve our goals.
In recent weeks, I've surveyed our members to better understand them—where they are, what they are capable of doing, what they LIKE to do, etc. With that info, I hope to propose, develop and guide us to effective actions that are within our current capabilities.
And all along we must grow in size and capabilities so each action is bigger and builds on prior successes.
Some of our efforts should be directed at exposing the idiocy of arresting people who's "crime" is trying to protect our planet from destruction, and demanding their release. There is so much that we can do.
I sometimes wish I was an experience activist, with a long history of successes and failures to learn from. Alas, I am not. And for this reason, our start as a movement may seem slow and halting—but I promise you that I am persistent.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments—I need to hear what people are thinking and feeling to help guide me.
