I think we need to recognize the difference between human beings and things — living sentient beings and inanimate objects. Both have value, but humans have incomparably more value than things.
They are NOT equivalent or equal. Property is less important.
Why am I talking about this? Isn’t this obvious? Isn’t this NOT controversial? That’s what I used to think. But the passion for property, it seems, often matches or even exceeds caring about other human beings nowadays.
Those of you who read me know that my main personal approach to saving the Earth is to try to persuade influential people to change their ways— primarily wealthy people who profit from fossil fuels and who financially sponsor politicians (that is, buy them) — and thus make policy. I understand this is a difficult path, but there’s no easy way for ordinary people to save the Earth.
In any case, I’ve been sympathetic to nearly EVERY strategy to try to save the climate Desperate times call for desperate measures. And, although it’s something I don’t have the temperament for, I’ve spoken out in favor of sabotage of fossil fuel infrastructure as part of the mix of approaches to stop climate abuse.
And I was called a terrorist.
