Some good points raised
A framework for making demands and quickly building an effective popular climate movement was released yesterday on this platform. The document, called A Climate Declaration, received (let’s say) mixed reviews.
Of course all people of good will want to fix the climate. But whether or not ACD could be an effective framework is under dispute. This makes sense to me. It is my best effort, but I’m not at all sure it couldn’t be improved on. My hope is that it is good enough to get the job done. It’s ONLY a framework designed to provide direction, establish demands and inspire action.
Tessa Schlessinger, a Medium writer who I much admire, is concerned about the ability of ACD to inspire action. In particular, she thought my idea of parents — and their love for their children — would not succeed as an effective motivator. She pointed out that parents may be overrated, and that truly good parents that love their children enough to be moved to climate action may be a rarity. She suggested that 93% of parents don’t love their children that much. I don’t know if she’s right or not. I certainly agree that most people have mixed feelings about their parents and their childhoods. And yet children DO typically make it to adulthood, so parents must be doing at least an adequate job.
