As far as engineers are concerned, they develop solar panels and batteries and wind turbines and I admire them greatly. Their work on making more efficient renewable energy will certainly be a big—probably the biggest—part of any plan that results in our species survival. Ideally, no geo-engineering will be needed. But that’s well beyond my expertise.
