As usual, Umair hits the mark, accurately and insightfully diagnosing the problem. But maybe it’s time to turn our attention to solutions?
While nothing is guaranteed to work, there are millions and millions of Americans who are desperate to fight climate catastrophe and fascism. And, contrary to what others would have us believe — the great men view of history — ”powerless” ordinary people have often successfully worked with others, fought back and won.
Hundreds, perhaps thousands of local anti-slavery groups (many of them composed of “powerless” women) fought for abolition and were a part of why slavery was ended. And people have ousted the British from India, enabled women to vote and accomplished other things. Yes, in most cases a handful of famous “important” people — many who have helped — receive the full credit. Heck, even though it didn’t turn out as we would have hoped, there was an Arab Spring with ordinarily people overthrowing “powerful” dictators.
So, what’s the best approach to try to turn things around? Umair?
