Here’s a better reason to love your neighbor than “Jesus told you to.” When you actually love your neighbor, this demonstrates that our corporate and political leaders are redundant, and we don’t need to let them trash the Earth.
I’m not religious. I don’t believe in the supernatural. I don’t believe that Jesus’ words are sacred or that the Bible is true.
But I judge the words “love one another” to be some of the wisest ever uttered. Everyone from politicians to the loudest people proclaiming themselves “Christians”, in their rare moments of honesty, will tell you that’s squishy thinking and that in the real world, well, that won’t fly. Love is weakness. Only a fool would bring a flower to a gunfight.
But it’s the fools who carry guns and who whistle in the dark, trying to keep persuading themselves and us that they have the power. The guns aren’t power. They are a symbol of fear. And cowardice. They are a physical manifestation of people who know their authority is based on lies and who know that their “power” hangs on that thin scaffolding of lies.
These are people who cannot do anything except issue orders and once people refuse to be slaves, refuse to follow orders…they are done. And not everyone needs to defy them. Just a few imaginative souls need to start…
