How we can change everything and why we must
Right wingers are on the verge of trashing Roe v. Wade and, in many states, criminalizing abortion. To many, this seems unbelievable. And they are going beyond this — laws in various states will make abortion criminalized with no exceptions for rape or incest or danger to the life of the mother.
There is no limit to the cruelty. And yet even this isn’t enough.
Some right wingers are moving to criminalize the use of birth control, creating a Handmaiden society even more extreme than the fictional one.
Meanwhile, sane and caring human beings are in shock, feeling powerless and afraid. The secret is, there are billions of sane and caring people, and a much smaller number of sadistic loons. Unfortunately, the loons have taken the initiative while the sane people simply watch.
The Overton Window is the idea of expanding the concept of what is possible. The right wing fully understands this concept, and makes unreasonable and seemingly impossible demands — after which such demands are often normalized and then realized.
