Call Me Crazy—or “Radical”—But I’m Happy That The Fascists and Plutocrats Were Defeated In France and the UK
Why is there not universal jubilation?
So, When Macron won the top job in France, I cheered with an ironic grin and said “Yay! The investment banker won!”
I’m no fan of plutocracy—one of the forces enthusiastically trashing the entire Earth out of selfish greed—but I really meant it. Because although Macron was not and is not in any way a man I agree with, HE’S NOT A CRAZY EXTREMIST AUTHORITARIAN BIGOTED THUG!
In both the UK and France, the most dangerous and crazy people running for office were roundly defeated. I think that’s very good. Yes, it’s just one election (or two…) but it’s still a very good thing. We dodged a bullet…for the moment.
You know what? I’ll take it! It beats the alternative.
And, you know, I keep hearing scary things about the dangerous left, the winners who are either bad news or will be stymied and will be unable to govern.
The truth is simple: In France and the UK, as in the United States and many other nations, ultra-wealthy individuals and corporations nearly always get their way—politicians take money from them, one way or another, and deliver fabulous returns on those investments.
You can be sure that no policies that would reign in the unlimited greed of the elites will see the light of day. If Karl Marx was president of the United States, he would give a gigantic tax cut to the rich. He wouldn’t be given a choice.
So spare me crocodile tears about the leftist leaders—who will do nothing—and turn the spotlight on our dying planet and the people who are murdering it. They lost a couple of elections last week, but they are still firmly in control.
