Climate Heroes: Wynn Alan Bruce

Wynn Alan Bruce was a climate hero

As I write these words, the Supreme Court has not yet issued its ruling in the case of West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency. The Court is widely expected to rule against the EPA and prohibit the agency from regulating C02 emissions that are destroying the Earth’s climate. In response to this and other climate disasters (or really, crimes against humanity), Wynn Alan Bruce self-immolated on the plaza of the Supreme Court on Earth Day 2022.

You may or may not have heard about it. It was reported, but not prominently, in most media outlets and quickly disappeared from the news cycle. Even though Bruce sacrificed his own life to bring attention to the severity of the climate crisis and demand immediate meaningful action, media and politicians and others simply let the story die.

I won’t go along with that. I urge you to tell others about Bruce and remind everyone — especially in media and politics — that authorities everywhere continue to fail catastrophically and are destroying the climate and the planet our children will inherit.

There is no excuse for this behavior and no excuse for ignoring the important message Bruce sacrificed his life to bring to us. We are at Code Red. Leaders STILL continue to allow and even encourage an INCREASE the burning of fossil fuels. This will not go away. We are already feeling the impact and it…
