The “astonishing” decline in renewables and an alleged turnaround by world leaders makes one respectable climate analyst optimistic — that the projected severity of the crisis has been halved.
Mr. Wallace-Wells, as I see it, understands the chemistry, physics and biology of the climate crisis extremely well. But his understanding of politics is naive.
There has been no meaningful action on the part of world leaders to slash fossil fuel use. As they have been doing for decades of conferences, they meet and announce plans and fossil fuel use increases.
And it’s true that the cost of renewables has been declining — the rate of decline astonishes Mr. Wallace-Wells, confirming that his abilities as a prognosticator of human activity and behavior is weak. He understands science — not…
