Declaration of Independence 2020

We the people are supposed to be in charge of our country. But there are limits.

Human rights and human well-being is fundamental. A majority that brutalizes a minority is illegitimate. The current regime is illegitimate regardless of voters and elections, whether crooked or fair.

Any one of the actions described below would mark this regime as a criminal regime. We list just a few of the crimes.

AN ILLEGITIMATE REGIME

This regime runs concentration camps, brutalizing immigrants including imprisoning adults and children and forcibly sterilizing women. These are the tools of genocide.

The current regime is illegitimate regardless of voters and elections, whether crooked or fair.

This regime intentionally and knowingly encouraged actions that greatly increased the spread of a deadly virus, resulting in the deaths (so far) of 238,000+ Americans. Our country which has 4% of the planet’s population had 20% of the deaths.

This regime robbed the American people by stealing their tax dollars to enrich their wealthy friends and themselves. That they make this theft “legal” is no defense.

This regime has attempted to reduce and remove the access of the American people to healthcare.

This regime has openly defied court orders while using the courts to justify and support its crimes.

This regime has protected and supported the fossil fuel industry, accelerating our race to extinction — willfully dooming our species, in defiance of known science and observed events. This is the greatest crime in the history of the planet.

Because the regime controls the government and the rules, we are obligated to defy both for the purpose of saving our country and our planet and especially future generations. This responsibility is not our choice but it is what fate has thrust upon us.

DECLARATION: WHAT TO DO

We do not need to sign anything. We sign by our words and actions.

We agree that human well-being is fundamental and will fight against cruelty and the destruction of our species with every power at our disposal. We will not react, but act because our only hope is taking control of events.

We recognize the powers we have and the powers of our opposition.

They have guns and greed and institutions under their control which give them the illusion of legitimacy.

We have love and justice and human decency on our side. We will fight in a way that makes guns useless. We will resist by noncooperation, by speaking the truth loud and clear every day, by shredding the regime’s illusion of legitimacy and exposing its unprecedented evil.

We will withhold our labor, our taxes, our cooperation from this regime. We will never answer its attacks. We will ignore its words — which are merely self-serving lies — and speak truth to each other and anyone who will listen.

We will talk to people with love and truth, including and especially those who are in positions of responsibility for carrying out the regime’s violent bidding: those who operate concentration camps, as well as military people and police. We will demonstrate our humanity to them and expose the inhumanity of this regime. We will win them over because they are our spouses, our children, our parents. They are us. We are natural allies.

We will talk to people with love and truth, including and especially those who are in positions of responsibility for carrying out the regime’s violent bidding: those who operate concentration camps, as well as military people and police.

Our actions will be unstoppable. We will protest on our own stoops — not in public among crowds which can be beaten, gassed and arrested. We will hold signs explaining clearly what we demand and showing clearly the human rights violations and brutality that we will never tolerate. We will demand the immediate resignation of the regime and the establishment of human rights and well-being as our governing principle. We will take photos of our individual protests and share the images everywhere.

We will create a culture, an unavoidable culture, that makes this country ungovernable by despots. We will operate knowing everything depends on us, and that our opposition has no power but violence and greed and delusion and hate.

Our actions will be unstoppable. We will protest on our own stoops — not in public among crowds which can be beaten, gassed and arrested.

We will start small and be joined by others until we number millions and then, worldwide, billions. We will be patient and stubborn and never give up.

This is for our country, our planet, our species and for the future. We will save our planet and bring the criminals who threatened its destruction to justice.

We start now.
