This is fiction. It’s a vision of one possible scenario if A Climate Declaration has the intended impact.
We waited too long. We trusted our leaders. By the time we “reformed” or replaced them, the Earth was more than 1.5 degrees hotter than our planet should be. The damage was done, but we are finally slashing the use of fossil fuels. Not slowing the increase. Actually, fossil fuel use has plummeted over the last two years.
Our children will inherit a seriously damaged planet, care of decades of failed leadership worldwide. But they won’t be doomed. Under the circumstances, not being doomed is a huge success.
Anyway, the news is no longer a bunch of fake promises to do something by some future date. Or a signed agreement with pledges that nobody honors. Or a tiny bill that’s hailed as a giant step and promises to be a turning point — but is, in fact, woefully inadequate to meet the scope of a planetary climate crisis.
Look at the charts.
Here’s the record of closings of fossil fuel plants. And NO new plants have been built since 2025. These are percentages, with 2020 being 100%.
