Disposing of the Lie of All Powerful Corporations and Governments
The power is in our hands, just as long as we don’t go by their rules.
As we fearfully watch the climate collapse, we feel powerless against the mighty corporations (especially Big Oil) and their government pals worldwide. It’s just little old us against those massive goliaths.
Wait a minute. Didn’t David slay Goliath?
There is a myth and we all too often believe this myth. We see ourselves as victims of powerful evil geniuses who rule the world, who use us and the planet at will to increase their own wealth and power. We have no role to play except that of victims.
We’re doomed.
Except we aren’t. Our adversaries aren’t evil geniuses. First of all, they aren’t geniuses — how smart is it to destroy the habitability of the planet on which you and all of your loved ones live? No, they are painfully and embarrassingly stupid. Even though many have advanced degrees and hold high-level positions of authority.
I would argue that they aren’t even evil. Their actions are evil, but their motives are, well, to do what’s expected of them within the bubbles they occupy. Their peers expect them to maximize profits, and enhance the power of their governments. Their motives aren’t really evil; they are somewhat mundane…
