Earned Optimism

We can’t guarantee success in our efforts to save the planet and ensure a better world for our children. But we can make success more likely and, with true effort, EARN the right to be optimistic.

Can we save the Earth from climate collapse and assure a better life for our children and future generations? Some people think I’m unreasonably optimistic. And, it’s true, I sometimes say we WILL succeed, but more often I say we CAN succeed. The times I say “will” I have made a mistake, born of excessive enthusiasm.

But I truly believe that we CAN succeed. I am absolutely convinced of that. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I don’t think so. Whether or not we WILL succeed, I truly do not know. But it’s obvious to me that, by making a real effort, we have a better chance of success.

Climate Anxiety and Climate Collapse

Truth is, our climate isn’t doing so good. It’s worse than predicted by scientists — the collapse is speedier and more severe in many ways than expected. This shouldn’t be a surprise — by their nature, scientists are cautious. They aren’t alarmist. Most truly believed that the climate collapse would come about slower than it now appears to be going.
