If it bleeds, it leads. Even in the 21st century, this old news media trope still holds. The camera and the clicking audience loves violence, anger and mayhem. Well, maybe they don’t love those things, but they are certainly drawn to them. They watch and listen.

On the other hand, maybe they DO love violence, anger and mayhem. I mean, who knows what goes on in people’s heads? Especially nowadays?

Nonetheless, the Landmark Protests, the exact opposite of violence and mayhem, has spontaneously grabbed the spotlight. It’s a puzzle.

The Lone Protest Group

As far as the world is concerned, it started at the Eiffel Tower. A one woman with a sign and some pamphlets stood in front of the famous structure at sunset. A friend filmed her.

Other people — mostly tourists — filmed her as well. The video ended up on YouTube and Instagram. They didn’t get much traffic right away. They were buried in the din of influencer videos and other popular Internet garbage.

But then there was a second video. Nobody saw the guy in person. He was standing in front of a corn field in Kansas. His sign was identical to the one held by the Eiffel Tower woman. He had the…
