Great article. But you forgot to explain why the Great Resignation is happening NOW. The exploitation of the American worker didn’t start this year.

Furthermore, the “experts” are making and popularizing ridiculous explanations. For example, people are quitting themselves and exposing themselves to possible poverty because the job market is so great they expect to get better jobs. (If that were the case, wouldn’t they get those great jobs first, and not just quit? Of course.)

And “desperate” employers need to workers—but don’t hire them because there’s a mismatch of skills. Another clueless explanation.

I believe what happened is this. Millions, possibly hundred of millions of American’s hate their jobs. They only stayed because it’s their only way to avoid immediate poverty.

But enough disgusted and angry workers quit during COVID—taking the abuse while risking their lives was too much—that they quit in large numbers. And THAT opened the floodgates, making it socially acceptable to quit.

The experts are saying the quit to start new businesses, or new jobs (that they don’t have yet), or they happened to retire in record numbers by some coincidence.

But they are mostly angry and scared and frustrated and basically at the end of their rope. That’s where we are. I believe it will continue and endure and destabilize everything. At least I hope it does.
