What do you think when you wake up?
When I first awake in the morning, I often think to myself: “I’m alive! How cool is that?”
In part, this is because I know that I’m lucky to be alive. I’ve been close enough to the other side to feel the grim reaper’s hot breath — twice. But I’m still here. Alive and kicking.
Today, I awoke with a different idea: “Happy Fridays!”
How we start the day, what our attitude and approach is, has a big impact on the day. Things that happen outside our control are — well, not within our control. But our attitude towards it all IS largely within our control. Taking a positive attitude isn’t always easy and sometimes it can’t be sustained. When tragedy hits, it may be too difficult to see the bright side. Or there may be no bright side.
Still, most days are neither tragic nor magnificent. They fall somewhere in between. Why not tweak things in your favor?
Look for the good, the beautiful, the kind, the fascinating in the world. Remember pleasant things instead of, say, re-living an argument you had. If you find yourself thinking about something that worries you, DO something about it — if possible — and then go on to more pleasant things.
Maybe make it a personal tradition. Why not celebrate “Happy Fridays” every week?
