Need driven creative artist who abhors violence and wants to save the world.
I can’t do it alone, although I will never stop trying. And I’m not doing it alone — I have hundreds of wonderful people who are trying to help. I’m the fonder of The Saners, a climate activist group that seeks to end the climate crisis and replace our failed foolish civilization with a sane and human one.
I put in a lot of effort, as I should. The other Saners, for the most part, have other responsibilities and interests. As they should have. Part of the concept of the Saners is that we don’t need a movement composed of full-time activists. This is a movement for everyone who cares.
But we do need some activists who are truly devoted and put more time and attention into it. We may even have a few such people — we sometimes do a survey of people and their interests when the sign up. I’ve reviewed most but not all of those surveys. There may be a few potential core Saners already signed up.
For a movement to really work, there must be a a handful of dedicated (but not necessarily full-time) activists — people who study history and learn, people who strategize, people who guide and inspire, and people who have the guts to take the first visible public actions. I’ve been trying to do that — but I’m just one old man. And yeah, Indian activist Gandhi was just one person. Migrant worker activist Cesar Chavez was just one person. But I’m not Gandhi or Chavez. I’m probably good enough, but I’m still rather ordinary. I need a few more ordinary but determined people to work with me.
Job Description
You are an artist, a creative an imaginative artist. You may draw or compose music or make cartoons or movies. Czech movement leader Václav Havel was a playwright. Srdja Popovic, one of the people who helped oust Serbian dictator Milošević, was a bass player.
You have the ability to create compelling art that draws people in and delivers messages that resonate. You are curious and humble — ready, no anxious to learn from history, from those who went before. You want to know what works and why — and you want to know what dangers lurk and how to avoid them.
You recognize the dire situation that’s confronting our species, and you intend to meet that challenge with humor and even a sense of fun — because you recognize that we need an upbeat culture of life and amity to meet this challenge.
You recognize that other movement have beaten long odds to succeed and deeply believe that this one can, indeed must, succeed as well.
