Here’s how to wrap your head around your notion that Harris voters want genocide.

They don’t. The only two viable candidates would—in all likelihood—continue to support the obliteration of Gaza. And, here on Earth, third parties had zero chance of winning.

Now, the VP does not make policy and most VPs simply support the president’s administration. We don’t know for sure (and never will) what a President Harris would have done. But I suspect she would have tweaked but continued what Biden did.

We also don’t know what Trump will do—but we’ll find out. We do know that Trump has criticized Netanyahu for not killing Gazans fast enough. We also know that he instituted a Muslim ban. These were his words and policies, not Pence’s. His.

So, in reality, ending the genocide was not on the ballot.

What WAS on the ballot was a choice between increased hatred and brutality towards people of color, towards women, and towards anyone who Trump doesn’t like — and a rather ordinary Democratic candidate.

We also can expect attacks on any the ACA, Medicare, and Social Security.

You chose a symbolic vote against genocide and chose not to protect people of color and women and others against this extraordinary cruelty openly championed by Trump.

I believe in your sincerity but I believe you made a strategic mistake. BTW - I’m 67 and more cynical about government than you are. I believe that, at best, government could put a speed bump in front of our worst problems.

I believe that the only way to a better world, to end the slaughter of Gazans, to protect our planet from climate collapse is through a movement that’s learned from history how to effectively make positive change.
