The economy is a way of distributing wealth. It’s a choice. Any human system is a choice and we can choose differently. An economic system (or any system) that destroys the habitability of the planet is not viable, and must be defied.

But everything, EVERYTHING, is portrayed as insignificant compared to the economy. In fact, “it’s the economy, stupid” is the overriding paradigm in elections, and policymaking.

This “wisdom”—which is really propaganda repeated incessantly without anyone seriously questioning it—is nonsense. It’s an attempt at self-fulfilling prophecy. And it’s had some success.

Let’s talk about fracking. I live in Pennsylvania. I hear—all the time—that the key issue for the state is fracking. Fracking creates jobs. Pennsylvania is an energy state. This one issue—fracking and the jobs it creates—gives this critical state, and perhaps the presidency, to Trump.

Trump’s policy is drill drill drill. He loves fracking. Biden seemed ambivalent—we all know that Biden talked about, and even passed legislation, to…
