How Saving the World Makes Each of Us Whole

Until very recently, I believed that climate activism required me to make some serious personal sacrifices. Putting the planet first makes it necessary for me to delay or even abandon my personal desires to fully engage in and express my creativity.

My choice was: be an artist of life, OR try to keep the Earth habitable. It seemed that the latter was the only real option. The former was a small and selfish desire that I’d need to let go.

Small Desires Are Actually Big

Now I see being an artist and living fully and doing what’s required to stabilize the climate are not only compatible, but inseparable. Protecting the Earth is a creative act, an act that requires the full development and expression of all my creative skills and abilities.

We are all artists. Art is simply each person’s style of self-expression. Whether it’s mime, or standup comedy, or drawing cartoons, or writing operas…as a person, you need to express yourself. You are an artist when you engage with friends, or strangers, or even enemies in your own…
