A visionary story of a future we could choose
I can’t say it was easy or painless. It wasn’t. But it was less difficult and less painful than I would have expected.
We did it. We changed the world. Kind of. With an assist from chemistry and physics. Once all hell broke loose nearly everywhere on the planet, it became pretty hard to resist people demanding: do something now or get the hell out of the way. They left. The leaders. The failed leaders of the great nations of Earth. The leaders who failed to protect the climate. The first leaders in history who were unable or unwilling to pass along a habitable planet to the next generation.
They’re gone. We don’t talk about them anymore. They’re not relevant. They’re the past.
Of course, it’s only a tentative victory. We are certainly not out of the woods. We haven’t fixed the Earth yet.
At least the scientists are empowered to act. Finally. It’s really late to be just starting and they might not succeed. But, at least the human race isn’t going out without a fight. We are on the problem.
The way we got here seems like a dream. The plan sounded crazy. And most of us were dubious. But it was the only plan on the table that gave us something to do other than wait and hope.
