I agree with nearly everything you said, except the part about human nature. I believe that we are in deep trouble because our leaders live in bubbles and are consumed by greed and lust for personal power.

I believe resistance is rare because most people feel powerless and a large percentage of people feel they can only get change by going through the system.

And the system is, as we all know, unresponsive at best.

But I believe, at the deepest level, human being are mostly motivated by love. People (mostly) love their children and do everything they can to ensure that their children have the best lives possible.

This isn't having much effect just yet because:

1. Obedience to authority and peer pressure is very powerful and helps the foolish people and systems that are destroying the climate retain power;

2. Most people believe they are powerless and the only thing they can do is hope that leaders come to their senses.

This situation led me to conclude that IF there was a movement dedicated to forcing the changes we need, and IF they believed that this group had a real chance of success, many would join. In fact, I believe that there are more than a billion people worldwide who love their children enough to take part in this movement.

But like all movements, it will need to begin with a small number of brave and principled souls to blaze the path.

That's our new group, The Saners. This group believes that to allow a few greedy self-centered morons to destroy this beautiful planet and doom our children would be INSANE. And we will disobey, resist and stop this insanity.

We know that it's possible for a principled group of people with no authority whatsoever to stop a powerful group who are on a destructive path.

Gandhi ousted the British from India. King ended segregation in the racists American South.

The Saners are determined to preserve the habitability for our children, for everyone's children. AND to replace this unsustainable and cruel "civilization" with a sensible and human society that values life and Nature, NOT mere things and money.
