I agree with what you have written. Boomer bosses are, by and large, foolish and, well, bossy. I had my own company and was a “boss” largely because I hated the way most businesses operated and wanted to do it differently.

My assumption was that the people doing the work were closest to and most familiar with the customer and with the challenges in providing excellent products and services to them. As a manager, I was further removed. My job was to listen to these employees and find out what they needed—which was largely the autonomy to do things their way using their best judgement.

I’m not sure that millennial bosses won’t be as foolish and short-sighted as boomer bosses—but I hope they learn from the folly of my generation.
