I co-founded one of the first web dev companies in Philadelphia, back in 1995. I knew—I think most developers knew—we needed vector based animation especially given that everyone was on dial up.

I asked my employees to keep their eyes open. Pretty soon, someone showed me Future Splash Creator. We started using it. Had no idea it would become part of Macromedia or it would be big. We just knew it was the tool we wanted.

We also experimented with an early tool to embed fonts. It worked fine, but failed in the marketplace.

The early web was exciting and like the Wild West. Not so much now.
