I don't have solid immovable positions on many of these things. But overall, when we have a serious challenge—like the existential challenge of the climate crisis—I don't want to leave that to the private sector.

If an asteroid was heading towards the Earth, I would wait for someone to find a way to turn a profit on preventing its impact. I'd expect WE SIMPLY SHOOT THE DAMNED THING OUT OF THE SKY before it kills us.

My guess is that, at least for the short term, we need to slash production, especially the production of nonessentials, sharply and quickly. That's the only way I see to VERY quickly slash emissions.

If someone comes up with another way that works, I'm fine with that, too! In fact, the climate and society group I've created—The Saners—calls on climate scientists and other experts to develop and emergency plan. I don't think I or our group has that expertise.

So my opinions are just that. Nothing solid, but my best guess. With or without subsidies, clean energy would be too slow at this point.

Should we develop it and use it wisely? Yes. But it's not where it needs to be and we must be mindful of how late it is in this crisis.
