I don’t really believe that nuclear is even necessary, and I certainly don’t buy the dismissal of renewables. That said, I’d be fine going nuclear IF AND ONLY IF it was coupled with an immediate moratorium on new oil production and a reduction in use—not simply adding nuclear. Whatever we replace fossil fuels with doesn’t matter but failure to quickly shut them down is complete failure.

BTW, although I’m fine with nuclear IN THE CONTEXT OF ENDING FOSDIL FUEL USE, it’s the casual dismissal of the dangers of nuclear that makes me skeptical of it. Perhaps it can be used safely, but we always hear lies when there’s a disaster, a coverup, and a bunch of experts saying they didn’t believe it was possible.

Then they say it was a special case and future nuclear plants will be safer. It’s not ignorance that makes people dubious about nuclear. It’s the pattern of observed behavior and denial and excuses we repeatedly see.
