I don't think we need to persuade anyone to "fear" climate collapse. It's already visible and people will react however they choose.
What we should do instead is mobilize the sane, caring and intelligent people who want to preserve a habitable Earth for their children and future generations. There MUST be well over a billion of such people (that's just 1/8 of the planet's population) who are frustrated, angry and perhaps scared.
In any case, IF this group recognized their numbers and chose to act, they could remove every failed leader worldwide and trash every rule, law and tradition that's propping up fossil fuels—QUICKLY AND EASILY. Not within the systems which are designed to protest the power structure which is killing us, but by disobeying and dismantling them.
Then, we'd do the only sane sensible thing: put climate scientists in charge of an emergency worldwide program to stabilize the climate. We don't need ideas. Climate scientists have the expertise. We need action, and our oily "leaders" in the United States, Russia, China, India, the Middle East and elsewhere are blocking action. THEY must be removed.
Think I'm dreaming? Change DOES happen and nobody retains power forever. Look at the collapse of the Soviet Union, at the Arab Spring. Look at the seeds planted by Occupy. I believe we are already nearly there. Somebody just needs to find a way to light the spark.
I'm looking to set that spark. So are many, many others. One of us will succeed.
