I just have a different world view. It may be wrong but as I see it government is largely reporting to large corporations—who finance politicians of both parties. And capitalism—which of itself isn’t bad and could be good—has morphed into a shark-like Frankenstein thing.
Personally, I don’t demand much and set the bar low. If the current system, with all its flaws, would just deal effectively with the existential problem of climate catastrophe…that would be enough for me.
There is a possibility that it might—technological advances in alternative energy might overwhelm the interests of the oil industry. But I’m not comfortable betting the future of our species on this.
But I can hope! :-)
Alternatively, neoliberalism might be right and the system adapts effectively to different challenges including this one. I wouldn’t rule that out. But I’m nervous about that.
