I knew David Sedaris as a kid in Raleigh, NC.

The writer David Sedaris (I know, I know — it’s getting old) is a wealthy, enormously successful writer. When he’s not writing, he spends much of his time in airports and hotels, or picking up garbage on the side of the road in the English village where he lives. In the early days, he cleaned apartments in Manhattan and didn’t own a television, so he wrote. He doesn’t carry a phone, so he observes the world and then writes about his experiences. If you want to be a writer, you could do worse than to follow his example.

I knew David Sedaris as a kid in Raleigh, NC. I’m an unsuccessful writer…financially. I wrote literally hundreds of short stories at very boring jobs. And nearly zero stories while working more stimulating and better paying jobs. I prefer less money and unstimulating work , and more creativity.
