I think actual genius requires extraordinary imagination. Einstein was a genius even though many of his contemporaries were far better at, say, math.
I think of Jobs as the one-eyed man in the land of the blind. He appears to be a genius because he is compared to exceptionally unimaginative people—business executives. But being one-eyed is far short of a visionary. It is COMPARATIVELY impressive. I think the Xerox Parc people were closer to geniuses…and even they fall short of that lofty perch. But I’m impressed by the invention of the mouse and email and Ethernet.
Anyhow, that’s my very amateur evaluation of all this.
