I think we actually agree much more than we disagree. I love paintings and artifacts. I’ve worked at a museum. I own historic artifacts that I protect and plan to donate to a museum.

I also love the Earth that today’s young people will inherit—at least they will inherit the ruined shell that remains.

As you probably know, no paintings were damaged by these activists, nor was any intended or planned. The protesters were fully aware that the painting was protected by glass. They were also fully aware that people would be angry at THEM and still not do much, if anything, to stop the Earth’s destruction. They were making a point: that we are still not prepared to face reality and do the hard thing: rock the boat, make a noise, and offer real resistance.

Nobody is protecting our children or our planet. I’m trying—and so far failing—to protect them. I’ve written letters; I’ve encouraged others to take action in whatever way they think is best. I’ve created articles, stories and videos to increase awareness and make people feel uncomfortable when they FAIL to act.

I’ve myself failed to act for decades. I believed that political and business leaders worldwide, as foolish as they can be, they would ultimately decide it’s better to hold power in a living world and not preside over a dead planet. I was wrong and foolish.

There have been 26 highly publicized climate conferences, all getting attention and filling people with hope. Every last one has failed. C02 emissions continue to increase because the leaders do nothing. The 27th is about to begin and still people treat that charade as if they have any credibility left.

Most people see life going on as it always has. I don’t. I see the future we are heading towards. I see hungry children with hollow eyes asking me why I let this happen.

I’m still not doing enough. The much-maligned soup can throwers haven’t done enough. None of us have done enough. We need to ramp it up. I need to be able to look back into those hollow eyes and say: “You saw what I did. I tried.” I’m not there yet. But I will get there.
