I, too, was confused by this article. But I agree that we are being fed BS about both student loans and Social Security.
College today is too damn expensive and student loans are a crushing trap. I paid off mine decades ago—a few thousand dollars. But today’s students essentially leave college with a mortgage and no home. And wages have been flat for decades. And employers tend to be abusive because we all need money to live and changing jobs is an iffy proposition.
I believe student loans should all be forgiven and young people should band together and lean things from free online courses. Colleges aren’t viable. If they want to continue to exist, they need to offer value and charge credible prices. Maybe they can’t. If so, goodbye.
Social Security. Ha! We’re told to wait as long as possible. But do the math. In real money, waiting a year or two doesn’t really help much. And increases the chances of dying before collecting anything. Nearly everyone should take it as soon as possible. Besides, the plutocrats are hoping to steal that money, too. It might not be there much longer.
