I understand your pessimism. It is all too rational. However, the future is not predetermined and instead of predicting a dismal future, we can try to create a better one.
That's the approach that our movement, The Saners, has decided to take. I believe the danger to all of us is dire and terrible.
But I believe you've overestimated the fools who are in charge, and underestimated the capability of ordinary people. You have forgotten that ordinary people—the exploited—do ALL of the work. And robots can't buy things.
We believe the way activists from the Indian Nationalist movement to more recent ones like Otpor! that removed the Serbian dictator and brought about (imperfect but genuine) representative government, we can overcome Big Oil and other dangerous corporatists to free humanity from the grip of oil and greed.
Our approach, like the approach of those other successful movements, is nonviolent noncooperation. This is possible. It violates no Natural Laws. By contrast, continuing to oppress people worldwide while DESTROYING THE HABITABILITY of the Earth is literally impossible. We may fail. But they cannot possibly succeed.
In any case, we are not ready to give up, we intend to try our best and we aren't virtue signaling—we damn well intend to succeed.
