I wish I hadn't implied harsh things about you. But I believe we understand each other now. That's good!
In fact, you are the kind of person that gives me a positive impression of Christianity. I do not agree completely with any religion, but find merit in many schools of thought.
I would say that what I disagree with about many religions is that morality comes from obedience to God. I believe that goodness exists within nearly every person. I think it's fundamental to being human—an aspect of our common humanity.
When we are told that we are good only because, for example, we fear a just God...I think that diminishes morality itself. It's deeper than obedience, I believe.
In fact, I think that many Christians—believing in original sin—are doing themselves a disservice. They are attracted to Christ's goodness because they feel it within themselves, as part of their own essence.
In the same way, I respect your faith, that it is genuine and sincere and deep. But I also believe that you would have been a good person if you lived somewhere remote and never heard of Jesus. I think you are good BECAUSE you are good. Religion is an idea that reinforces and supports who you already are.
