I would say that fear—which is an understandable issue—is the root of their problems. And perhaps our problems as well.

Fear is natural because we are evolved to fear death and yet are irreversibly mortal.

We flourish when we erase the (very thin) differences between us and recognize fully our common humanity. We've been finding that hard to do. But we CAN do it.
