If all of these things existed before capitalism and would not end if people decided to organize the economy differently tomorrow.

In any case, it’s not just capitalism. No existing government or economic system has made a credible effort to protect the climate in the 40+ years since the warnings were first issued.

As far as the notion that capitalism can’t be defeated or that without it there would be no—say—houses built is clearly mistaken. Leaders and systems of all types have been defeated throughout history. What happened to the Czar? To the Soviet Union?

I think that dictators and plutocrats and, most importantly, climate collapse CAN be defeated by ordinary people who care.

I’ve dedicated the rest of my life to making this happen. I don’t care much about defeating capitalism. But I sure as hell won’t let oil sheiks or plutocrats or any other people, rules or ideologies get in the way of ending oil, and ensuring that our children have a much better world than what we are currently on the path to hand them.
