IF an Unwanted Fetus Has Rights When It’s “Viable,” Why Not Take It Out and Leave the Woman Alone?
Viability gives anti-abortion activists a way to be fair to both fetus and mother. Will they take it?
Suppose you believe that a fetus is a person and needs to be protected. For this reason, you have been insisting that women who are pregnant must be used as incubators — whatever her wishes are about bearing or not bearing the child. As someone who claims to be pro-life, you care about the unborn child.
So why not remove the unborn child or zygote or fetus from the woman and try to take care of it the moment it’s viable? This isn’t entirely satisfactory to the woman who doesn’t want a child — she’s already been carrying it for many weeks. But perhaps it’s better for her than carrying it to full term.
And, if the anti-abortion zealot actually cares about the unborn, there should be no problem with this approach. If you don’t want to burden or punish a woman who doesn’t want to have a baby, this should be easy peasy.
Better yet, let’s put science to work and build an artificial womb! This would be a big project, but science is really capable of many things, properly funded. So, let’s fund this like the Manhattan Project. After all, this is about keeping babies alive! How could an anti-abortionist NOT…
