I’m in pretty much full agreement with you. If we were to do triage on the crises we face, climate catastrophe would be number one. Except it’s a crisis we refuse to face.

I would like to say that humor can be a bonus in a film about serious topics—look at Dr. Strangelove. I think Don’t Look Up does a very good job. It could have used a trimming—it runs long and feels long—but it’s quite good and the best film to date to tackle the climate crisis. It makes people VERY UNCOMFORTABLE—which is the mark of success.

I hope more films, TV shows, songs, paintings, novels and every form of creative expression are used to their utmost, making the status quo untenable and forcing the end of burning fossil fuels.

By the way, Kim Stanley Robinson’s novel Ministry of the Future is having a similar effect — scaring the hell out of people while reminding them what can and must be done.
