I’m sympathetic to the approach described here and I believe that this approach—and many others—must be tried.

That said, my aplroo on schedule has been different and is evolving. I do many of the individual things, not because they matter, but because they keep me focused. So, I quit beef. I’ve never owned a car. Most rooms in my house have no
air conditioning. (That one might be a little dangerous!) I rarely fly. I’m planning to move to a place half the size of the one in live in now.

But my big picture is this: more than a billion people, and possibly several billion, are appalled at what’s happening and desperate to stop climate collapse. These people are parents worried about their children. And they are young people fearing they have no future. And they are also just ordinary sane and caring people.

But these billion+ feel isolated and powerless and despairing. They’ve tried protesting and voting and nothing works. So, instead they now distract themselves—binging on Netflix, wasting time on social media, drinking too much or taking drugs.

They believe it’s over and they are simply running down the clock.

My view is that we need to:

1. Awaken these people to recognize that they number a billion+; they AREN’T alone, and
2. Give them something meaningful to do, to violate the systems and norms that are killing us, to disrupt, to expose failed leaders and failed systems and work together in small groups to build an alternative to extraction, greed, fear and universal death.
