Insurrections, Decorum and the Unenforceable Constitution

The Tennessee state legislature is fine with insurrection but unable to accept the decorum of protestors. Meanwhile, every Federal single officeholder continues to fail epically in the most fundamental part of the job.

The Tennessee State legislature never considered expelling insurrectionist Terri Lynn Weaver. Much like the United States Congress which welcomes dozens of “representatives” holding office illegally in direct violation of the clear words of the 14th amendment.

The state legislators in Tennessee never had a problem with insurrectionist Terri Lynn Weaver serving with them in that august body. But a few days ago they self-righteously expelled two legislators who were guilty of lack of decorum.

Let make this clear: attempts to overthrow the United States government by force does not offend the Tennessee legislation, but non-violent protest does. Does anyone, anyone at all, truly believe that the Tennessee legislature would have expelled members who protested against, say, legalized abortion in exactly the same way that these legislators protested against gun proliferation?

Does anyone — of any party — truly believe that this was anything but a partisan act?

Now, Representative Weaver was not in the chamber during those votes which resulted in two elected representatives being denied their seats — and the voters in those districts being denied representation. Terri Lynn, who had served since 2008 was defeated in the most recent primary, and left office in January of this year. But she was not removed from office.
