Interesting to think about the ozone hole. They fixed that by banning the substances that caused it. They ended use of Freon (in air conditioners, etc.) and aerosols (in hair spray, etc.)
Nobody just told consumers that they need to stop buying those things, that business and government were helpless in the face of consumer demand. They gave consumers no choice—they took the products off the market and replaced them with safer ones.
We should be ending fossil fuels, taking them off the market, and replacing them with safer energy sources. Nobody is doing this, but lots of people are PRETENDING too. We know that no meaningful actions is being taken because fossil fuel use is at record levels and still increasing. CO2 emissions are going UP, not down.
Our leaders everywhere in business and government have failed catastrophically. They had a 35+ year warning and did the exact opposite of what climate scientists told them was necessary. Even today, they make excuses and continue destroying our children's planet.
WE need to take control and fix things. WE are our only hope. But WE CAN DO THIS.
