Why in hell would any sane person conclude that the climate only concerns environmentalists?
I often describe our civilization as literally insane. Indeed, it is from this that the movement I founded gets its name: The Saners.
We hold that to knowingly ruin the planet that you and everyone you love lives on — or allowing others to ruin it—is insanity.
What we ordinary people think about, and decide is important, is largely determined by the media. We talk about what they tell us is important. Now, it’s not that simple. There’s a feedback loop between media and what ideas are “out there.” But what’s “out there” is largely determined by paid propagandists like think tanks and PR firms.
What actual people think about, when they can, which is mostly after they’ve gone to bed and before they fall asleep, is barely a part of the equation.
The Habitability of the Earth Isn’t A Niche Concern
I’m astounded that I even need to say this: all of us have a critical interest in not ruining the planet.
People who don’t want a dead Earth are not a special interest group. Indeed, anyone who understands the crisis and gives it a low priority, or trumpets the idea of “drill, drill, drill” is, as I’ve said, insane.
