It’s also tragic that companies that had so many great engineers are reduced to serving evil bean counters. Unlike bean counters, most engineers have consciences and that’s why we have whistleblowers and even those who aren’t fired (because they are a cost and not revenue generators) quit because they don't want to be accessories to murder.

In pretty much every case, executives and managers are clueless or simply don't care about human life, and the engineers are ignored or overruled. That was the case with Challenger, and that's the case with Boeing. And that's the situation in thousands of other cases we don't know about.
