John Roberts cites “common sense” in ruling allowing spousal abusers to be denied firearms.
In his defense, Justice Roberts is the only right winger on the Court who ever seems to be aware that common sense exists and should be considered. Still, I was startled by this quote by him as the majority (8–1!) — ruled that firearms could be regulated in this narrow ruling:
“Together, the surety and going armed laws confirm what common sense suggests: When an individual poses a clear threat of physical violence to another, the threatening individual may be disarmed.”
Of course, common sense would recognize that nobody needs the very powerful weapons that are easy to obtain today — weapons that simplify mass-murder and are clearly not defensive in nature. But common sense is very rare — in the case of the majority on the SCOTUS, almost non-existent.
More Common Sense
People who are sane and caring understand fully what has happened here on Earth. People in positions of power, wealth and authority have decided to maximize and protect their advantages at a deadly cost. The most egregious evil committed by this group is the ruin of the Earth’s biosphere and climate — dooming our children along with their own.
